Florida Vacation
Over Memorial Day Weekend, Rodney and I got together with his brother-in-law, Jimmie, to play a round of golf while we were in Florida. This trip like all the rest was a working vacation, but we were able to sneak away Saturday morning to play the neighborhood course — The Triple S Golf Ranch. I have only heard that it was a swamp… but Jimmie plays it pretty often so we went.
It was much nicer than I expected. From what I had heard from others that the course was run down and poorly managed. However, it was quite the opposite. The greens were great and the fairways were nice. There was no real rough on the course. The course was relatively unchallenging. No long holes (5,410 yards), no par 5s on the back 9, no sand traps, and only a couple water hazards that had to be crossed. On the plus side, it was only $18 with a cart on the weekend to play 18. That makes playing the course way better in my book and the location was less than a mile from Rodney’s Mother-in-law’s house which is where we were staying.
There were a couple of problems with the whole experience. One was the lack of a driving range or chipping area to hone my skills before teeing off. Although, they do have a putting green and a little raggedy driving net that makes up for it [/sarcasm]. The club house was not stocked very well with supplies, but they did have the essentials. Balls and beer. The worst offense… THEY DON’T TAKE CREDIT CARDS!!! What a tragedy.
Overall, I give the course a 5 on my scale of 1 to 10.
